外国在做电气设计的时候很注重这个安全问题，要想在国产设备上见到安全继电器的机率会低很多。举个例子来说，当一台机器的安全门（也可以是安全光栅）打开的时候，安全继电器就会断开供电，安全电路控制主马达的接触器断开，主马达停止，待安全门关上后，在按下复位键才能使主马达运转。
安全继电器的品牌型号很多，但基本上包含以下功能：
1、万一机器安全电路发生故障时，可以停止机器动力电源；
2、安全电路发生故障时，机器不能再启动；
3、在紧急停止解除时，机器不能出现突然再启动。
